What do you do when your flight to England is grounded due to the volcanic ash? Call Capt. Shane for some bare knuckles, smash mouth, ground and pound, everglades bassing!
Andrew and Alexander from England were with me saturday in the glades. They were stuck in Miami and had the bass itch. Short story...the kid was a novice but the dad was a seasoned veteran of some serious worldwide fishing adventures. I knew the bassing better be good to make an impression on this fella. Lucky for us it was overcast all day long and the bite was wall to wall from sunup to sunset. The topwater PoP "R" bite was off the chain at sunup and lasted for almost two hours. Then it was the Yamamoto Senko's turn to take a bass pounding. It was a soid bite untill mid afternoon. Back to a serious top water and senko sunset finish. The dad said we caught well over 200 bass. I think he was more excited that the fantastic day in the glades had helped to dramatically improve his sons' bass game. As a father, I can understand that. Good times in the swamp with good people! _________________ Doing it Everglades Style!

Finally after 11 years in south Florida I hit the sawgrass bass flats. I was accompanied by an old friend Dan and his partner Jason. They are the creators of J.D's Custom Baits. Check out the size of these worms I felt like I was pulling a snake out of a sack each time I needed to swap a worm. You can check out there line of hand poured custom baits at www.jdscustombaits.com
I'am used to the confined fish bowl in the southern portion of the glades....so this was super cool! Not near as many fish but a wonderful experience.

Those almost look like those swimming snakes that Doug Hannon (the bass professor) puts out. _________________ Whether you think you can, or you think you can't, you're probably right! |

Holy ***, those worms are huge!
Were you just texas rigging them? Do you even need weights with the size of them? |

It's freaking Florida, it's supposed to be like that! Nice fish though Capt no matter what. But, it must be like shooting fish in a barrel I suppose? _________________ A bad day of fishing is better than anyday at work. Unless of course you get paid to fish, like The Mad Fisherman!!! Had Steve and Debbie down from Va. First day they boated near 50 in a little better than a hour and a half before getting blownout by sever thunder and rain. Second day they got 3x that and these folks were pumped. Here are a few pics and videos from the day.
Then after all that I got the best testimonial ever by any customer

Capt Shane,
When someone is a fishing guide and advertises that you “will” catch over 100 largemouth bass in a day, the more experience angler lifts an eye and says….not likely. Our first day out we could only fish for one hour because of a violent rain storm…within that one hour my wife caught 30 fish and at one point landed ten straight bass in ten casts. I caught over 20 in the same hour so we had 50+ fish in the boat within an hour. On our second day, my wife and I caught 150 fish (actually got them in the boat) and we hooked many more. I know for most reading this it sounds like another “fishing story” but it’s not. While the fishing is the finest on the plant….You, Capt Shane are a wonderful guide and easy to talk to and be with. You treated my wife as if she was a queen taking off every fish, showing her how to cast, placing bait on the hook and even taking photographs and videos. Our fishing trip was a total adventure! While the fishing is over-the-top this was more than a fishing trip, it is a lifetime of memories with scenery, birds, alligators, bull frogs, crystal clear water and lots of fish. I can assure you, my wife and I will return to the Florida Everglades and enjoy this adventure with you again. Bottom line……your price is right, your stories are true and we are telling any future clients that booking a trip with you should be done with total confidence. Thanks for everything, Steve and Debbie Thien, Jarratt, VA _________________ Doing it Everglades Style!

My guest today was Jim Sattazahn of Fredericksburg, Pa. He was wanting to catch something better than the lil bass his local ponds has. I called this one Kung Fu bassin because he is a 2 nd degree black belt in some martial art. Anyway he caught quiet a few nice fish and claimed that by 8am. he had already had the best fishing day of his life........gotta love that. Most were caught using senkos, rapala husky jersa and JD's custom baits.

All I can say is that the Everglades bass are going off! Its a post spawn feeding frenzy. Most were caught on plastic worms, JD's custom baits and Rapala crank baits.
My guest yesterday was a local business owner, Juan M who also fished the FLW series among other tournament trails. He was pretty sharp and extremely technical. Cool dude! I was surprised that we missed the morning bite despite being there early, but still made out pretty good. I was not counting but we had well over 100.
I'll never forget this trip because a gator took my bass just as I was kneeling down to lip him. Never saw this bruiser coming. He came from under the boat like a great white shark and was a foot over the gunnel with mouth wide open. I was all shook up for many minutes afterwards and very grateful that neither me or Juan were not injured.
