Last month Charlie Moore from the ESPN2 hit "Beat Charlie Moore" came to South Beach in Miami. The South Florida everglades bass fishing and the night life of south beach was the backdrop for a new episode of "Beat Charlie Moore". I was given a set of possible dates....which I had already booked for charters by some Canadians and fellas from Tenn. After a few phone calls and some schedule shuffling everyone was happy. Game on!
left to right Captain Shane Procell, Charlie Moore, Keith McClendon and Jason Miller
Over the years I have had many interesting people in the boat but Charlie Moore "MadFish" was by far the most entertaining. After being with Charlie for two days I felt like I had started a abdominal crunch routine...I mean I laughed so hard so long that I was was in pain for several days.
This was the most fun I had with Charlie. He was on my home court, the Florida Everglades and Florida black bass was the target species. Charlie and I fished against two mechanics both of whom have been my friends for many years. One of them, Jason Miller of LaBelle Fl., wanted my head on a stick and the other, Keith McClendon of Hattysburg Ms., is a huge fan of the "Beat Charlie Moore" show as well as a competitive angler on the "Fishers of Men" tournament trail. Both boats caught a ton of fish real quick. If you have seen Charlies show before you know he usually waits untill he catches his first fish before lighting up a cigar. Lets just say he was smoking within minutes. It was a five fish tournament and boy was it close! The loser had too.........well you'll just have to catch it on ESPN2 one saturday morning in the near future.
Day two was "Charlie Moore Outdoors" for the NESN (New England Sports Network). I have never seen this show but it was the show that launched Charlies' career. This was just Charlie and his wife Angela fishing. She was a real trooper. Charlie had told her they were going to "Sunny South Florida". The weather went south and it was fifty degrees and raining all day.... just miserable weather. They fished for a four hours and I can say she caught as many fish as he did. Here they are doubled up again.

I want to thank the MGC/305 for donateing their time and boats for the camera crew. Justin (Out-Cast), Richard Spillane(FlatsBroke), Al Walther (greaseball), Garry Amos Jr.(Titusville...not MGC/305, but a cool cat), and Ed Diaz. I want to give a special thanks to Harley Gheene for creating the Gheenoe and to Pugar at Custom Gheenoe for taking it to the next level. I want to thank Charlie Moore for his friendship. I want to thank my mom for teaching me to fish and my wife for putting up with all the early mornings and late nights due to fishing. But mostly I want to thank God. With God nothing is impossible.
I know...shut up already. _________________ Doing it Everglades Style!
